[Updated] Bryan Singer Fired From Bohemian Rhapsody Due To On-Set Absence/Being A Fucking Pedophile Monster

Just reading between the lines here.

UPDATE: Well, it didn’t take long for this story to get feisty. According to a follow-up from Singer to The Hollywood Reporter, the reason for his absence was due to him having to “temporarily put my health, and the health of my loved ones, first.” Essentially, Singer claims one of his parents went gravely ill in the past month, and Singer took the time off to care for them. Fox didn’t like this, so had him fired. A story which, hey, very well might be true. That doesn’t take away from the fact that Bryan Singer is still Bryan Singer. Let the man never work another day in Holllywood, for all I care.

The original story follows:

My distaste for Bryan Singer has been pretty well documented (even more so than my distaste for David Goyer, even!) Initially, it was for the usual fanboy reasons: I just didn’t like his movies very much. The Usual Suspects is overrated as all hell, his X-Men movies did not age well at all (even the one that came out last year, somehow), Superman Returns is boring…I could go and on here. But you know what? In the grand scheme of things, my opinion on the silly little movies that Bryan Singer spends his spare time making are completely inconsequential. But you know what IS of big fucking consequence? The fact that Singer spends his free time molesting and assaulting underage kids. Or, should have been of fucking consequence, if Hollywood had its shit together at all.

Thankfully, the process for said shit assemblage has been slowly occurring in the past year, one of the few “bright sides” I can think of for the year 2017, really. As the noose of sexual harassment and assault allegations begins to tighten around many actors, producers, journalists, politicians, and the like, my mind kept going back to Bryan Singer. The man’s horrific behavior has been reported on many times in the past, but has failed to make a significant dent in his professional career. He still produces the X-Men films, he still gets to direct big movies, and he still (assumingly) has parties in which he drugs and rapes others. But to paraphrase a certain superhero movie: you know what happens to a famous person in 2017 whose history of sexual abuse and molestation comes to light? Same thing that happens to everyone else.

They become president. No, wait, the other thing – all their horrid behavior is completely brought to light, they are ostracized by their profession, hated by the general populace, and removed from any position of power they may currently have. The first step of this path has today commenced, which I can only hope means that the other steps will follow.

But, for now, I’ll just bask in the schadenfreude of this piece of news: as reported by The Hollywood Reporter earlier today, Bryan Singer has been fired from his current project, Bohemian Rhapsody. That alone isn’t enough to assume anything about Singer’s behavior, but the circumstances surrounding it is really what seals the deal. You see, Singer was fired off the Freddie Mercury biopic part way through shooting – which, come to think of it, isn’t that weird of a thing for 2017 either. But unlike the other time it happened this year, the reasoning is actually very sound, and stems from the behavior of the director rather than the creative vision that they had.

As first reported a few days ago, Singer has been completely absent from the set of Bohemian Rhapsody since the conclusion of the Thanksgiving break. No one really knows where he is, or how to get in touch with him. He just disappeared, without a trace. Or to quote the main character from his (once again, let me stress, highly overrated) breakout film:

Boy, the memories of this film are sure as fuck tainted, huh?

But things just get weirder from there. According to the new report today, shooting on the project has been pretty much a shit show, with Singer behaving erratically, getting into altercations with his lead Rami Malek (Mr. Robot), and showing up completely late to set…if he shows up at all. Singer was absent so much that the project’s cinematographer, Thomas Newton Sigel, had to fill in as director for multiple days, just to keep the project on track. That was all in vain, however, as Singer’s firing (and, I imagine, the search for a quick replacement director) has delayed production on the movie for the rest of the year.

This is a rough position for the film, but ultimately a predictable one. The moment The Grand Culling of Sexual Monsters began in earnest with the explosive allegations against Kevin Spacey, I knew it was only a matter of time the Eye of Aggomolester looked towards Singer. Bryan Singer is of course a frequent collaborator (and personal friend of) Kevin Spacey, and the old adage of “birds of a feather flocking together” very much applies here.

Well, at least Rami Malek looks pretty cool in it.

But, just so we’re clear here: despite the flippant headline, Fox did not fire Singer because of sexually inappropriate behavior. They fired him because of his erratic behavior, But, hey, if your pedophile kingdom was collapsing around you, your co-conspirators were being outed, and people were more actively investigating your years of monstrous behavior…wouldn’t you be a little erratic too?

This story is very much developing, so stay tuned.
