Look, I’m going to keep this brief, because I am honestly getting tired of The Batman director talk. The whole back and forth is just so tiring and, at this point, I would be okay with a drunk clown directing The Batman if it meant that we would have someone directing the stupid thing.
Thankfully though the new director of The Batman is NOT a drunk clown (I think, at least — I don’t know what the guy does in his spare time.) No, the new director of The Batman is Dawn of the Planet of the Apes director Matt Reeves!
…Now I know what you’re thinking: wasn’t that announced like a week ago? And, well, yeah — it was. But here’s the kicker: just a few days back, Reeves dropped out of negotiations, leaving many of us to assume he would no longer be a part of the film. But — psyche! — Reeves is actually sticking around, Warner Bros. swears this time! They even got the Cloverfield director to release a statement about how excited he is, so you KNOW it’s true!
“I have loved the Batman story since I was a child. He is such an iconic and compelling character, and one that resonates with me deeply. I am incredibly honored and excited to be working with Warner Bros. to bring an epic and emotional new take on the Caped Crusader to the big screen.”
Who knows what brought Reeves back on board, but we should all be thankful that he it happened. He’s an extremely talented guy, and any project he attaches himself to has my attention. And, yes, it once again means we can put this whole “Who’s directing The Batman?” thing behind us, and focus on other important comic-book superhero things.
Unless, of course, Reeves departs the project again…but let’s just hope to god that doesn’t happen, right?
