But in all seriousness…about fucking time, huh? Red Dead Redemption 2 has been a known quantity for damn months now (if not years, to be honest), and we were all just kind of waiting for Rockstar to get off their asses and announce the thing.
Well, this morning they got off their asses and announced the thing.
Following a string (i.e. two) vague pictures posted on Rockstar’s Twitter account, the company finally confirmed today what it has been up to — and yes, of course it’s Red Dead Redemption 2. Here’s the below tweet confirming the whole deal, alongside a release window and day we can expect the first trailer:
A release date of Fall 2017 makes a lot of sense — it is however a whopping seven years after the release of the first game, so that’s certainly a wait. It’s even longer of a wait than the one between Grand Theft Auto IV and Grand Theft Auto V, if you can believe that. It’s not Bethesda’s massive nine years between Fallout 3 and Fallout 4, but it’s close.
Still though: let’s not look a gift horse in the mouth here. I LOVED Red Dead Redemption, and I’m beyond excited to return to this world. On that note, it’s interesting Rockstar is just sticking with “Red Dead Redemption 2” as a title. Does that signify a more direct sequel to the first game then we expected? And what about the image attached to the logo? Sure seven cowboys is a classic Western image, but does it actually tease the playable characters in the story? After all, Grand Theft Auto V featured three playable character — could Rockstar be upping the ante here? Hopefully we’ll have a better indication comes Thursday, when the trailer finally makes its way online. Consider me excited.
